The Range

This is a low lying area just south of South Stack. It has a great variety of routes, some that are really easy introductions to adventure climbing. As such it has become popular with our lead guides because we can escape the crowds and have what feels like proper adventures without much stress.

The Range offers something for everyone. It has small routes from Diff to E7. Some are solid others are loose. Since the release of the Gogarth South Guide, there has been a lot of development in this area. Since discovering the area our head coach has run a few courses here and we have managed to do a couple of new routes with our clients whilst working.

As such it is a real gem of a place, the Stanage-on-Sea if you know your way around and where the good rock is. Being so small and with easy access, it will no doubt become more popular as reputation grows.

So incredibly lucky for a beautiful day out on the mountain with Mark. He was wonderfully accommodating and went above and beyond to ensure that I had the best day climbing possible. We were able to do a couple of classic routes and he was constantly sharing his local knowledge and climbing expertise. His familiarity with nearly every person we passed on the mountain showed his remarkable depth of commitment to the climbing community in Wales. I couldn't have asked for a better guide.

I had the privilege of climbing with Mark for two months and I quickly learned that he possess the perfect mix of rock and book smarts. Not only is he one of the best climbers I have ever met, but he has the education and training to translate complex physical and mental climbing concepts into material that is easily absorbed by those who are new to the sport. At the same time, I was also able to observe Mark engage his skills in ways that challenged even the most seasoned climbers in my group. Do yourself a favor, climb with Mark and find out why he is a great instructor and guide!
