Scottish Winter Skills

Hillwalking in Scotland in Winter is both physically and mentally challenging, the rewards are amazing. Staying safe requires a whole host of skills which we cover on this course.

Scotland is one of the most amazing mountainous areas in the UK, in winter it is even more so. We have no fixed base in Scotland, however we see that as a fantastic oppotunity to move with the conditions. So whether you want to scale Ben Nevis by a classic mountain route, master your gully climbing in the Cairngorms or exploring the remote and rugged North West.

We can either guide you up much sort after peaks or take you on a skills development course, where we will introduce you to skills you'll need to be an independent winter mountaineer.

These new skills include:

  • Use of Crampons
  • Use of an Ice Axe
  • Avalanche Assessment
  • Poor Visibility Navigation
  • Emergency shelters
  • This Course takes place in Scotland, and is very much subject to conditions, the Scottish mountains are very arduous, and we suggest that your hill fitness is up to the level to walk from near sea level to 1000m everyday. We can arrange the courses in either the west coast (Ben Nevis and Glencoe), East Coast (Cairngorms) and the North West (Glen Sheil and Torridon).
